W E L C O M E - We're here to help you and us !

Our City and tax dollars are re-constructing Dawson Road and we are expecting great things! On the surface - new sidewalks, bike lanes, better roadways and even trees. Down below - all kinds of new pipes, electrical connections and stuff that will make things work more efficiently.

The work is scheduled to be done by September 30, 2010. Until then there will be lots of heavy equipment moving around. The City will keep all businesses accessible. Check out this blog regularly for helpful updates on road conditions and how to get into tight areas or call us at 519-767-2161 for up-to-the-minute conditions. Dawson Road businesses need your business, to ensure we're still here to celebrate the benefits of this reconstruction project.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010 - There is a lot going on here !

Good morning and welcome to Dawson Road Today.

The rain we had Monday night did not seem to hamper construction on Tuesday. The access way to Balkan  Auto Sales and Service is now open. The Dawson Road access to the Coffee Time Plaza at the corner of Speedvale and Dawson Road is now open.

All of the construction activity on Tuesday was down at the corner of Dawson and Speedvale again. This will also be the case today as the construction crew will break part way into Speedvale Avenue. They will be installing a sanitary manhole in the south west side of the intersection of Speedvale  and Dawson. This work is expected to take about one and a half days and will necessitate reducing Speedvale Avenue to two lanes. The good news is that the rest of Dawson Road will be almost construction-free for the next day or two.  So come on down.

We received this information from the on-site inspector, Charles Groen of Pitura Husson Ltd., when he came into our shop Tuesday. Pitura Husson Ltd. is the consulting company to the City and is responsible for administering the contract. Should you have any questions regarding the construction project you are invited to ask Charles, he is on site and wearing a white helmet. He has asked us to publish here, their company web site and his phone number to make contacting him easier for you. www.piturahusson.com 416-459-4000 We appreciate the cooperation of Charles in helping to make this construction project run as smoothly as it does.

As Charles promised last week new signs have been installed at the Speedvale end of Dawson Road listing the names of businesses on Dawson Road that are open and accessible. As I promised last week I am posting  pictures of these signs now that they are available. These are the businesses of Dawson Road. If you are one of these businesses please contact me if you would like to get included on the blog with the links and a picture. Contact Brian at

I have pictures of four of the shop fronts in the plaza at 86 Dawson Road.  These businesses are open and accessible now, and as I mentioned last week they all have weekend hours.  In the side bar at the right you will find web page links for a couple of these businesses - Payless Mattress and Wellington ortho & rehab.

Last night Linda and I went out to eat at Ethiopian and Eritrean Cuisine at 86 Dawson Rd.  We got there just before 9 which was fine because they are open nightly to 10 p.m. This is a brand-new restaurant that just opened May 1. While Ethiopian food is very popular in some circles Linda and I had never tried it before; and we wanted to try something new. We were greeted at the front door enthusiastically by  our hostess. She walked us through the menu explaining and answering all of our questions. Enjoying a cup of 'coffee' here is an experience well worth having. We chose entrée number 21 - modestly titled 'meat combo'. The hostess and the chef happily explained the what and why of their food and how it was presented. When we were finished we were satisfied but not stuffed, and found the prices to be very reasonable.  We will return and suggest you pay them a visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  One of the many fine businesses on Dawson Road.

That's it for today.  It will be a great day to be on Dawson Road! The weather is good, construction is light  and the Dawson Road businesses are open and accessible for you.So, come on down!
