W E L C O M E - We're here to help you and us !

Our City and tax dollars are re-constructing Dawson Road and we are expecting great things! On the surface - new sidewalks, bike lanes, better roadways and even trees. Down below - all kinds of new pipes, electrical connections and stuff that will make things work more efficiently.

The work is scheduled to be done by September 30, 2010. Until then there will be lots of heavy equipment moving around. The City will keep all businesses accessible. Check out this blog regularly for helpful updates on road conditions and how to get into tight areas or call us at 519-767-2161 for up-to-the-minute conditions. Dawson Road businesses need your business, to ensure we're still here to celebrate the benefits of this reconstruction project.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010 - It's a Bright Day Here on Dawson Road

Good morning and welcome back to Dawson Road today.  It's a beautiful Tuesday morning and the sun should be shining all day making for great construction weather, and a bit cooler.

We had an e-mail communication yesterday from Charles Groen who is the on-site full-time inspector from Pitura Husson Ltd. and is representing the city on the Dawson Road project. He will be providing us with regular and authoritative reports on what is actually happening in the construction work and what is coming up. On Monday the crew was able to complete the sanitary connections from Balkan Auto and the 86 Dawson Rd Commercial Plaza. They were able to get a start on the connections in front of Orbis Property Management and will likely finish that this morning.

We appreciate the attitude of cooperation from Charles and expect that his accurate reports will help both the businesses and general public feel more comfortable and confident with this construction project

I have subscribed to receive city construction updates and transit updates by e-mail when they relate to the construction projects in Guelph. When it relates to the Dawson Road project, I will pass that on in this blog. You can also subscribe yourself by going to Guelph.ca/remastered

Today, "the contractor will have their pump sub-contractor on site to help out with the final sanitary connections into the new sanitary sewer. The challenge is to pump the existing large sewage flows around where we tie in the new sanitary sewer into the existing. There are three major tie-ins for the sanitary sewer. The first one will be the tie-in at the intersection of Shelldale and Dawson - that is expected to take at least 2 days. The second will be the tie-ins at the intersection of Speedvale and Dawson - expected to take 4 days. The third will be the sanitary main running in the servicing easement between the Rona site and Brushcuts - and that will take probably 2 days."

Yesterday I had a late post because of Google's problems with their Blogger program. I welcomed 3 more businesses to our growing list of Dawson Road Businesses that you should know about. They were Park Capital at 76 Dawson Road, Orbis Property Management at 76 Dawson Road and Crossfit Guelph at 45 Dawson Road. Go back to yesterday's post to get more info about them and check out their web pages by using the links in the right sidebar.

The more I get into this blog thing, the greater the appreciation I'm developing for the diversity of businesses here on Dawson Road.

The construction crews had a long
day Monday with the final machine stopping sometime between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Late in the afternoon, a front-end loader was used to build up the ramps for the accesses coming from the paved transportation lane into the businesses. Some of the ramps had worn down a bit because of traffic and no doubt the torrential rains we've had the last few days. These rebuilt ramps will make exiting off of the transportation lane much smoother.

When you're coming down to do business on Dawson Road please remember: enter Dawson Road from Willow Road and travel north on the paved transportation lane, treating Dawson as a one-way street; drive slowly so you won't miss your access cut-off when you come to your business; should you happen to drive by the access you want, no worries- just keep going to Speedvale, turn right onto Speedvale and then right onto Edinburgh and then right onto Willow and then right back onto Dawson. It might be nice if you gave the construction crew a friendly wave. At the very least, they'll wonder what you're up to.

The weather is great, construction is moving along very well and the businesses of Dawson Road are open and accessible to serve you. It's a great day to do business on Dawson Road.
