W E L C O M E - We're here to help you and us !

Our City and tax dollars are re-constructing Dawson Road and we are expecting great things! On the surface - new sidewalks, bike lanes, better roadways and even trees. Down below - all kinds of new pipes, electrical connections and stuff that will make things work more efficiently.

The work is scheduled to be done by September 30, 2010. Until then there will be lots of heavy equipment moving around. The City will keep all businesses accessible. Check out this blog regularly for helpful updates on road conditions and how to get into tight areas or call us at 519-767-2161 for up-to-the-minute conditions. Dawson Road businesses need your business, to ensure we're still here to celebrate the benefits of this reconstruction project.

Friday, June 4, 2010 - More Rain Means Less Traffic - Come On Down

Good Friday morning to you and welcome to Dawson Road Today!

All of the construction activity on Thursday was down at the Speedvale end of Dawson Road as expected. The crews were able to get more digging done to connect the big drain pipes to the new sanitary manhole, but were stopped from completing this work by torrential rains in the early afternoon.   Almost a repeat of Wednesday afternoon.

The work down at the Speedvale Avenue end of Dawson Road has necessitated reducing Speedvale down to two lanes, one East and one West. This has caused an increased delay in getting traffic off of Dawson Road.  When I left my shop, Plants For All at 66 Dawson Rd, just after noon on Thursday, it took seven minutes to get   through the intersection at Speedvale and Dawson.  So while Speedvale is reduced to two lanes, allow a few extra minutes to get through the intersection.

The weather forecast for today is sunny to partly sunny with showers developing late in the day.  I expect the crews will be able to get a full day's work in today.  I noticed on Thursday that they were placing new green and white pipes at points on Dawson Road, I presume getting ready for the next stage.

I know that we need the rains for farm crops, home gardens and other greenery; but it sure puts a damper on the construction work. But on the bright side when it rains, there is less construction equipment to dodge when you come down to shop on Dawson Road.  This being Friday signals that there will be no construction work for the next two days Saturday and Sunday.Remember that several shops are open Saturday and/or Sunday. Check the Web links in the sidebar at the right to find some of these businesses.

I noticed on Wednesday and Thursday that some civilian vehicles have been traveling southbound on the construction lane. I don't know what the legal implications of this are but it seems to be a dangerous practice to adopt.  The construction crews are not expecting you to be in their lane and their vehicles are a lot bigger and heavier than your car.  In addition, the construction lane is much bumpier and rougher than the northbound paved lane which could result in damage to your vehicle or you damaging some of the new pipework that is in construction lane. Please be careful!

Remember to drive on the northbound lane only , drive slowly and watch for your access to the business wanted.

It's a good day to be doing business on Dawson Road.
