W E L C O M E - We're here to help you and us !

Our City and tax dollars are re-constructing Dawson Road and we are expecting great things! On the surface - new sidewalks, bike lanes, better roadways and even trees. Down below - all kinds of new pipes, electrical connections and stuff that will make things work more efficiently.

The work is scheduled to be done by September 30, 2010. Until then there will be lots of heavy equipment moving around. The City will keep all businesses accessible. Check out this blog regularly for helpful updates on road conditions and how to get into tight areas or call us at 519-767-2161 for up-to-the-minute conditions. Dawson Road businesses need your business, to ensure we're still here to celebrate the benefits of this reconstruction project.

Thursday, June 24, 2010 - It's YOUR money!

Good morning and welcome to Dawson Road today.

Construction on Wednesday, at least from this observers point of view, went as scheduled. In Wednesday's post, the report from on-site Inspector Charles Groen advised us that there would be traffic diversions off of the paved transit lane and then back on, as the construction crew worked their way southward from Speedvale Avenue.  We saw the first of these diversions Wednesday and the signage is as shown in the first picture. When driving on Dawson Road watch for these diversions, take it slow and you'll get around that diversion safely. If you have been following the blog, you will know that they buried the new main sewer pipes already.  The sanitary hookups from businesses on the west side of Dawson Road to the new main sewer pipes are done. Now the businesses on the east side of Dawson Road are having their sanitary hookups made. This necessitates digging across the paved transit lane, thus resulting in the temporary diversions. At the same time, the crews are removing the old main sewer pipes.

The old sewer pipes were 750 mm in diameter and some of them are shown in the next picture. The new sewer pipes are larger at 900 mm in diameter and some of them are shown in the last picture.

There are 25 road and building projects, including our Dawson Road Reconstruction, that make up Guelph Remastered, and must be complete by March 2011 in order to take advantage of $48 million in Provincial and Federal funding.  That's a lot of money, it doesn't include the city's portion, and it's your money. I invite you to come down to Dawson Road and see how your money is being spent. The construction crew and the consulting firm are determined to keep traffic moving as evidenced by the diversion plan. Some of the other construction sites around town are closed to traffic. So, Dawson Road is OPEN, the businesses are OPEN and You have an opportunity to see firsthand how your money is being invested in your city. I think you'll be pleased.
