W E L C O M E - We're here to help you and us !

Our City and tax dollars are re-constructing Dawson Road and we are expecting great things! On the surface - new sidewalks, bike lanes, better roadways and even trees. Down below - all kinds of new pipes, electrical connections and stuff that will make things work more efficiently.

The work is scheduled to be done by September 30, 2010. Until then there will be lots of heavy equipment moving around. The City will keep all businesses accessible. Check out this blog regularly for helpful updates on road conditions and how to get into tight areas or call us at 519-767-2161 for up-to-the-minute conditions. Dawson Road businesses need your business, to ensure we're still here to celebrate the benefits of this reconstruction project.

Thursday, June 3, 2010 - And the Rains Came Down

Good morning and welcome to Dawson Road Today.

Wednesday afternoon turned into a bit of a washout. With the torrential rains that hit this part of the City early Wednesday afternoon, construction had to stop. As mentioned yesterday the crews were expecting to break into Speedvale Ave Wednesday, and they did that.  As a result, Speedvale Ave. is reduced to two lanes at the intersection of Speedvale and Dawson Road. Before the rain, it  was expected this would last for about 1 1/2 days. No doubt that will be extended if the wet weather keeps up.  The forecast for today is overcast with rain showers and possible thunderstorms. As of this morning there are no blocked business accesses on Dawson Road due to construction.

Previously I talked about the bus stop location just north of the access to Guelph Medical Place at 83 Dawson Road. Because of the narrow boulevard where the bus stop was,  it has been moved down to the entrance of  the Guelph Medical Place. This will make the loading and unloading of bus passengers safer,  as well as keep traffic moving better on the road. Please keep in mind that when you are exiting the parking lot of Guelph Medical Place onto Dawson Road to keep an eye out for people waiting at the bus stop.

Yesterday I told you about Linda and I having an excellent dining experience at the Ethiopian & Eritrean Cuisine restaurant in the Plaza at 83 Dawson Road. However, I also should have told you that this restaurant will be one of the multicultural featured foods at this year's Guelph & District Multicultural Festival.  The Festival runs June 11, 12 and 13 at Riverside Park. (That is just next week.) So check out this new local restaurant at the Festival and better yet, visit them at their  restaurant at 83 Dawson Road.  Get more Festival information at www.gdmf.ca

Dawson Road is pretty quiet today because of the rain and because the actual construction is isolated in a small area at the north end of Dawson Road at Speedvale. So all businesses are open and accessible. It's a great day to be on Dawson Road and to take care of a few errands.
