Good Friday morning and welcome back to Dawson Road Today! September's gone. Today being the first of October means we are into the seventh month that there's been construction on Dawson Road. Considering that actual work started the third week of April and is expected to finish mid-October, it looks like the whole project will be about six months - that's half a year. Everyone will be happy to see an end to this very important project.
When you come onto Dawson Road this morning you will be directed by the arrow to stay in the right hand northbound lane. The construction crew has finished laying the A material road base for now. Remember, they were only going to put part of the total A material down and will add the rest when the curbs are installed. The next step will be to grade the road and boulevard and then to install the curbs and sidewalks.
The weather yesterday was good for construction. Up until Thursday afternoon the weather forecast for today was rain and more rain. That was adjusted last night and it looks as though we're going to miss the storm that is going up the East Coast. We are now expecting a mix of sun and cloud with cooler temperatures. That should be good for construction to finish off the week.
The construction crew still has to do another job that we're not going to be able to get to see them do. Remember all the heavy concrete pipes that were installed in the centre of Dawson Road as part of our storm water system. All of the connections, where concrete pipes are connected together, have to be parged with cement to further seal the connection. The outside of the pipe of course was done when they were installed and before the pipes were buried. The work this time is on the seam inside the pipes. Crewmembers will enter through the manhole covers to do the work.
With the completion of the road base, at least for now, both the northbound and southbound lanes of Dawson Road are pretty level. This does not mean that you should be driving faster. Keep it slow and steady and follow directions for the safety of the construction crew and pedestrians on site.
It's Friday. Rona Cashway is having a weekend sale on bamboo flooring. This weekend: QB2 restaurant is open, Hardsoft Computer is open, Payless Mattress is open, Wellington Ortho and rehab is open, Crossfit Guelph is open. Dawson Road - make it one of your destinations this weekend.
My new plant blog will be up and running early next week. I'll advise you when it launches and look forward to your suggestions and comments. Have a great weekend and I'll talk to you Monday.
