Good Wednesday morning and welcome back to Dawson Road Today!
Tuesday was certainly a better weather day for construction and getting around. The crews were working on Dawson Road in front of Royal City Warehousing and Guelph Medical Place on Tuesday. They were installing and connecting surface drains on the east side of Dawson Road into the main storm drain system. Other than that, we didn't notice any other activity on Dawson Road today.
Yesterday I told, and showed, you that the security fence in front of the under-construction medical clinic at 85 Dawson Rd was down. As can be seen in this picture the fence was back up again this morning. Construction of the new medical clinic has nothing to do with the reconstruction project of Dawson Road. However, when completed it will provide much-needed medical services for the people of the City of Guelph and more traffic and customers for the businesses of Dawson Road.
Monday night, the City of Guelph was marred by a number of illegal activities. We experienced break-ins in schools with subsequent vandalism damage, home break-ins with goods and materials taken and an armed robbery of a gas station on Edinburgh Road. Putting aside the dollar value of materials taken and materials damaged, each of these offenses was an invasion of someones' individual right to privacy and safety. We should not be afraid in our own homes, our own workplaces, our own schools nor our own businesses. None of these victims deserved what happened to them. Please be vigilant and should you notice suspicious activity please call the Guelph Police at 519-824-1212.
On a much more pleasant note, Linda from Plants For All will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Heart and Home Group on Tuesday, October 19 at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Salvation Army and all interested women are invited to attend. The subject will be "Disaster Recovery for Your Plants". For more information call 519-767-2161 or visit Linda at Plants For All at 66 Dawson Rd. To add to this - Linda and Brian are both available to speak to large and small groups, usually on houseplant or tropical plant related topics. Brian will be speaking at the Kitchener Garden Club in October and the Guelph Horticultural Society in January.
As mentioned above, the crews are working on the east side of Dawson Road. As you travel northbound on Dawson Road you will be redirected by an orange and black arrow sign, as shown here, to move over to the left and drive on the gravel road surface. As the crew moves further south with the work, the arrow will move ahead of them. This is not a problem and is not hard, just watch for and obey the arrow. At the start of work today the arrow sign is in front of Roy-Al Rentals.
Feedback Please:
I am still new at this blog thing and would appreciate your feedback. As of yesterday, my modest little blog has been viewed in 10 countries. It was never intended to make money from this blog; and believe me I haven't. This blog will end when the Reconstruction of Dawson Road in done.
I will be launching a blog later this month in support of my business, Plants For All. As I develop this new blog it would be helpful to me to receive any comments and/or are criticisms about this blog -
- what features could be better presented and how,
- are the topics discussed too long or too short,
- if short movie clips of construction activity had been shown would you have watched and for how long,
- have the businesses of Dawson Road (those which have chosen to participate) been represented adequately.
That seems like a lot for today so get up, get out and get something done. See you on Dawson Road Today!
Brian
