W E L C O M E - We're here to help you and us !

Our City and tax dollars are re-constructing Dawson Road and we are expecting great things! On the surface - new sidewalks, bike lanes, better roadways and even trees. Down below - all kinds of new pipes, electrical connections and stuff that will make things work more efficiently.

The work is scheduled to be done by September 30, 2010. Until then there will be lots of heavy equipment moving around. The City will keep all businesses accessible. Check out this blog regularly for helpful updates on road conditions and how to get into tight areas or call us at 519-767-2161 for up-to-the-minute conditions. Dawson Road businesses need your business, to ensure we're still here to celebrate the benefits of this reconstruction project.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 - The Cycle Goes On! (That's Good)

Good Tuesday morning and welcome back to Dawson Road Today! That's right, it's Tuesday. With Monday being Labor Day, the last long weekend of summer, we start the week off with Tuesday. And this Tuesday is the first day of school.

With the start of school comes a season of excitement in family life and business life. Students will be walking on the roads to school today, so please watch for them. For many businesses the start of school means a chance to make some economic ground after a long quiet summer. Students need new clothes, new bedding, new haircuts,  new computer equipment and so much more. Students make new friends and renew old acquaintances. As our Dawson Road reconstruction project enters into its last days another cycle of life goes on.

I would've thought that Friday's torrential rains before and during the noon hour would have brought construction to a standstill. While it forced me to suspend my route for couple of hours, it did not stop the construction for very long. A lot of rain came down in a very short time. Friday's rain combined with several intermittent showers Saturday and Sunday has left the construction site with a lot of standing water and some erosion on the roadway, as seen in these two photos. These photos were taken Monday afternoon.

On my walkabout Monday, it was curious to note that the security fence that had been around the perimeter of the site for the new Medical Clinic at 85 Dawson Rd was down at the front. If you left click on the second photo to enlarge it, and look at the right side of the picture you will see the fence laying on the ground. Why?  How?  When?

Staff from G-TEL Engineering Utility Locate Services were also on site Monday afternoon. You may recall this is the company that is contracted to locate the utility lines underground. They are contracted by Guelph  Hydro, Bell Canada and Union Gas.

Random Cameos:

At the start of business today Dawson Road is open for traffic - your traffic. As usual, come onto Dawson Road from Willow Road and travel northbound in the right hand transportation lane only. Speedvale Avenue is still reduced to two lanes at the Dawson Road intersection. The weather from here on in is bound to improve.  I even understand that we are to expect some more summer weather. This past weekend was just a taste of fall. I expect the construction crews will need to do some cleanup after the downpours of the weekend; but then it will be back to completing the storm water system.

The first day of school. The start of a new business season. The last few weeks of construction on Dawson Road. It's all good - so do the things you have to, find a little time for yourself and come on  down to Dawson Road Today!
