Good Wednesday morning and welcome back to Dawson Road Today!
Well we're certainly into the dog days of summer. The days are hot and humid with the possibility of a thunderstorm at just about any time. That can make predicting the weather for the next day or two almost impossible, and that's my defense for being wrong so many times. Stores are starting to promote their back-to-school specials, local intercounty major baseball teams have finished the regular season and are into the playoffs and people are trying to schedule in their leftover days of vacation. The dog days of summer - embrace them. Winter will last long enough when it gets here.
The main work of the construction crews on Dawson Road these days is the installation of the huge storm sewer concrete pipes. We saw last week that the crew had installed the first pipes in front of Rona Cashway. They are now installing one section of pipe at a time and directing it into the centre of Dawson Road. The crews will then work their way down the centre of the road toward Speedvale Avenue. The picture here shows two of these large sections. You can tell the relative size of each by the size of the car passing behind him. This part of the reconstruction project is going to take a lot of work.
The upside of this part of the project is that pretty well all of the crew is working in one spot. When driving down onto Dawson Road, you can easily navigate around that spot and then the rest of Dawson Road is completely open. So the dog days of summer and the dog days of the construction project are the perfect time to come and do business on Dawson Road.
A traffic reminder for today, if you are traveling on Edinburgh Road, expect delays as the city water crews repair a leak on Edinburgh Road at Suffolk Street.
Guelph transit is doing a good job at keeping the bus running regularly. Transit bus number 22 has a temporary stop located at the entrance to Guelph Medical Place. That seems to be a good central location to most of the businesses in the construction zone. If you need transportation to come to Dawson Road you can count on Guelph Transit bus number 22.
So embrace the dog days of summer on Dawson Road Today. Get out and enjoy it - slow and steady though. Watch for our dog, Tasha, out on the lawn enjoying the day.
Brian
