Good Thursday morning and welcome back to Dawson Road Today!
Wednesday was a hot and humid day with very little rain. The crews have been working on installing the huge rectangular concrete storm sewers. I expect that work will continue today. This picture on the left was taken just after noon in front of our shop, Plants For All, at 66 Dawson Road and shows four of the huge rectangular concrete pipes sitting on the ground. This picture on the right, taken late last night, shows the same sections aligned and positioned into the ground. These sections are very heavy and are lowered into position using power shovels. Each section has to be leveled and then fit into the previous section that has already been laid. There is a heavy rubber gasket between each section and then the sections are further sealed from the outside.
Each of these sections is about 9 feet wide by 8 feet deep by 5 feet high and the concrete is about 8 inches thick. These large pipes are being laid right down the centre of the road; but not to worry because the crews are doing an excellent job of routing traffic around the construction spot and the rest of Dawson Road is completely open. From the first picture to the second picture - all in a day's work.
I received an update from Guelph Transit yesterday that may affect any bus travelers using the Dawson Road bus number 22:
Guelph Transit Route 22 Service Advisory: August 6, 2010
Due to scheduled construction taking place on Edinburgh Road at Suffolk Street, service on route 22 Conestoga will be delayed as the bus travels through the construction zone. Please consider taking an earlier bus to ensure that you arrive at your destination on time.
This is good advice from Guelph Transit and we appreciate their foresight in letting us know ahead of time.
