Good Wednesday morning and welcome to Dawson Road Today! We have news you can use as we reach the midpoint of the week. In spite of the continuing extreme heat, the crews were able to put in a full day and get quite a bit accomplished.
When I stopped into my store, Plants For All, over the noon hour, I could not enter our parking lot because of a trench dug completely across it. As it turns out, the trench is part of the installation for the 25 mm pipeline for the fresh water supply. Kudos to our Canada Post mail carrier because he "jumped" over the trench to deliver my mail. He could have easily not stopped in, because my mailbox wasn't accessible; but he delivered my mail. Mail delivery is extremely important to small business. Back to the trench, Linda was certain the construction crew would have access to our parking lot open again before the end of the business day because Bel-Air Construction had two vehicles parked inside our parking lot and unable to get out until the trench was filled in.
Speaking of the fresh water supply pipeline, that work is going very well and should be completely installed before this week's end. The City of Guelph will then have to do complete bacterial testing before the new supply pipe is hooked up to the Dawson Road businesses. That testing is expected to be done next week.
Remember my new resident groundhog? He made a brief cameo appearance last night and of course I didn't have my camera with me. No photo yet but stay tuned.
On my walkabout last night, I noticed that they have installed several new fire hydrants. This is something we often don't notice and of course now is the best time to do it. The new hydrant pictured here is located in front of Roy-Al Rentals located at 74 Dawson Rd.
Last Friday, there was a break in the existing water main supply into Rona Cashway at 55 Dawson Road. The repair of this break is the responsibility of the City. City crews were on the job Tuesday afternoon and had the repair done shortly after 6 pm.
Yesterday, I told you that work on the Edinburgh Road reconstruction project was scheduled to start some time this week. Well, that probably won't happen. The City has some issues with some businesses in that area that need to be resolved, so the start of that project will likely be delayed.
I was speaking with Charles Groen, On-site Inspector with Pitura Husson. He is pleased with the progress on this Dawson Road reconstruction project, as am I. He meets regularly with the City of Guelph to review progress and resolve issues. The next big bit of business, after the fresh water supply hookup, will be the installation of the large cement storm sewers.
While the crews are working on the fresh water supply, they and their equipment will be on the paved transportation northbound lane. Watch for posted arrows and pylons to guide you around these areas. Go slow, and you'll be OK. Another reason to go slow - the extreme heat and accompanying dryness is creating more dust. Please, go slow to help keep the dust down. I'm sure the crew will appreciate it.
Once again, my thanks to Charles Groen for his input to this post.
The hot, hazy days of summer. If you are away on vacation - good for you. If not, come on down to Dawson Road to see your tax dollars at work and to visit 1, 2 or 3 of our Dawson Road businesses. We would love to see you, and remember ..... it's all for you!
Brian
