W E L C O M E - We're here to help you and us !

Our City and tax dollars are re-constructing Dawson Road and we are expecting great things! On the surface - new sidewalks, bike lanes, better roadways and even trees. Down below - all kinds of new pipes, electrical connections and stuff that will make things work more efficiently.

The work is scheduled to be done by September 30, 2010. Until then there will be lots of heavy equipment moving around. The City will keep all businesses accessible. Check out this blog regularly for helpful updates on road conditions and how to get into tight areas or call us at 519-767-2161 for up-to-the-minute conditions. Dawson Road businesses need your business, to ensure we're still here to celebrate the benefits of this reconstruction project.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010 - Things are heating up !

Good Tuesday morning and welcome back to Dawson Road Today. It seems a long time since I posted. We were able to spend a few days with family to celebrate Canada Day, and we had a great time. It is the first Canada Day weekend, since we started this family camping tradition, that we haven't had at least one day of rain.

So I haven't abandoned the cause.   I just wasn't here; but now I am so let's get to it!

The crews are still working on installing the new water mains, the site is neat and looks to be under control. I noticed that the crews topped up some of the cuts they made across the pavement when they were hooking up the east side of Dawson Road. The northbound traveling lane is now smoother for you driving because of that.

It looks as though we're going to lose our bus service on Dawson Road for the foreseeable future. Yesterday, the city issued a transit update on their Guelph Remastered link:

" Guelph Transit Route 22 Detour Update: July 5 – September 30
Due to the road conditions on Dawson Road, route 22 Conestoga will be temporarily detoured to Edinburgh Road North.  Route 22 will not service the Dawson Road Medical Clinic or the Shelldale Community Centre from Dawson Road.
From St. George’s Square, route 22 will travel along Paisley Street, turning right on Yorkshire Street North, and left on Suffolk Street, and right on Edinburgh Road North continuing to Speedvale Avenue East.  When returning to the Square, the bus will continue on Speedvale Avenue West and turn right on Edinburgh Road North.
Temporary stops are located at:
  • Edinburgh Road North at Willow Road (outbound)
  • Edinburgh Road North at St. Joseph’s Medical Centre Service Entrance (outbound)
  • Speedvale Avenue West in front of the Hammond Manufacturing Plant (outbound)
  • 214 Speedvale Avenue West (inbound)
  • 340 Edinburgh Road North, opposite St. Joseph’s Medical Centre Service Entrance (inbound)
  • Edinburgh Road North at Willow Road (inbound)
Bus stops out of service:
  • Suffolk Street at Norfolk Street
  • Suffolk Street at Park Avenue
  • Suffolk Street at Glasgow Street North
  • 39 Dawson Road (outbound)
  • Dawson Road at Dawson Road Medical Clinic (outbound)
  • Dawson Road Medical Clinic to downtown (inbound)
  • Dawson Road at Shelldale Crescent (inbound)
  • Dawson Road at Willow Road
  • Willow Road at Bagot Street "
That is some pretty significant changes to the transit service for Dawson Road residents, businesses and their customers. If you fall into any of these three categories, I would like to hear from you how this change to transit on Dawson Road is affecting you. The way I read their notice, we should expect to be without bus service until the end of the September, which happens to be the projected finish date for the Dawson Road reconstruction project.

The City also issued a Guelph Remastered notice that the Edinburgh Road reconstruction project between Speedvale Ave and London Road will commence this week and last five months. Bel-air Construction, the crew that is working on Dawson Road, will also be working on the Edinburgh Road project. I will be keeping a close eye on the Edinburgh road project because no doubt it will have an impact on traffic coming to Dawson Road.  Stay tuned.

Dawson Road appears to be in good shape. I expect the intense heat we are experiencing with this week's weather will slow construction down. Without the bus operating on Dawson Road for now there will be less traffic. The northbound transportation lane has been made smoother.

I have heard that Payless Mattress will be doing some in-store renovations to coincide with construction.  Drop in and see what's going on.  They are located in the plaza at 86 Dawson Road.

We at Plants For All have brought in more live tropical plants and recently we have been doing more work with quality artificial trees and plants. Come in and see us as 66 Dawson Rd.

Things are happening, there's a lot of changes going on and it's all to make your shopping experience better on Dawson Road. We now have more than two months of construction behind us and we're well into the last three months of the project. Overall the project is looking good, so come on down to Dawson Road.  We'd love to see you today!
